Lineart Technique

As I'd planned the previous semester, I wanted my lineart method to mimic elements of traditional printing, or rather, misprinting. I love the way that misaligned riso and screen prints featured a slight overlap of lines and colours where they shouldn't be, creating a trippy or blurry effect, and wanted to emulate that in my style.

To do this, I first drew out the panel in black on one layer.

Then I duplicated this layer and recoloured it to be a variation of magenta, and changed the layer type to multiply.

This allows the layer to be semi transparent, when overlapping with layers above or below it, much like overlapping inks in a traditional print.

Afterwards, I'd shift the magenta layer ever so slightly, so that it wouldn't align with the solid black lines above it, creating that fuzzy look, similar to something you'd see in an old red and blue 3D optical illusion.
